Artist Statement

Kari is a Northwest artist currently residing in Seattle , WA . She has a B.S. in Fine & Applied Arts with a focus in ceramics from the University of Oregon and is primarily a self-taught artist.

After moving to Seattle in 2000, Kari moved away from ceramics and towards painting and experimenting with various mediums like watercolor, acrylic, oil and collage. In the last two years Kari discovered encaustic paints and fell head over heels in love!

- Encaustic paints are a mixture of beeswax, resin and pigment applied to wood boards with a heated iron, torch and brushes .

" I have never felt so in touch with life's energy and our connection to it as I do when painting with this medium."

"When I paint, I experience 'Creative Flow' and look for natural forms like water, space, trees and I love the discovery of creatures hidden in each piece."
