Tears of Happiness
My painting has as a starting point Aristotle’s concept of happiness. He considers that happiness is an aim of life, an activity to desire. Moreover it is a superior spiritual activity: an act of virtue which expresses the most elevated side of humans.
The main character of the painting is my mother. She is my role model, the one who first guided my hand with the paintbrush and who revealed to me the secrets of colours. I made my mother’s portrait as she was in her youth because, irrespective of the passing of time, she is and will always be young.
The tree, full of tears of happiness, represents me. The one who carries on our love for painting; my daughter is also present in this work.
The image of the right eye appears recurrently in this painting. According to specialists, it is the eye from which the first tear of happiness falls.
